Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Ottawa Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic has experienced very high demand for primary care services since opening.

In order to maintain safe, high-quality care for patients already registered with the clinic, new patient self-registration is currently closed.

At this time, the Ottawa NPLC is attaching new patients through the Health Care Connect waitlist. Individuals who do not currently have a primary care provider are encouraged to register with Health Care Connect.

The clinic will also continue to accept referrals from community agencies and partner organizations to support individuals with the greatest needs.

The Ottawa NPLC remains committed to improving access to primary care in our community. We continue to work closely with Ontario Health, Health Care Connect, and community partners to attach patients as capacity allows, with a focus on individuals with the greatest needs in our community.

Updates will be posted on our website if the patient attachment process changes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

  • The Ottawa Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic provides team-based primary care. This means that patients may receive care from different members of our interdisciplinary team depending on their needs.

Our team includes Nurse Practitioners, nurses, social workers, dietitian, patient navigator, administrative staff, community paramedics and other allied health professionals. Each team member brings specific expertise to support your health and well-being.

This approach allows us to provide more comprehensive care, including prevention, chronic disease management, mental health support, health education, system navigation, and connections to community services.

  • An NP is a highly trained healthcare professional who provides comprehensive, patient-centered care. NPs have advanced education and clinical training, allowing them to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of health conditions. Nurse Practitioners provide a full range of primary health care to people of all ages, they can prescribe medications, order and interpret tests, perform procedures, and refer patients to specialists when needed.

Your Nurse Practitioner works with the rest of the clinic team to support your care. Depending on your needs, they may involve another team member, such as a nurse, social worker, dietitian, patient navigator, pharmacist or other allied health professional.

  • Not always. Because we provide team-based care, you may be booked with the team member best suited to address your concern.

Your Nurse Practitioner works with the rest of the clinic team to support your care. Depending on your needs, they may involve another team member, such as a nurse, social worker, dietitian, patient navigator, pharmacist or other allied health professional.

For example, you may see a nurse for immunizations or certain follow-up visits, a dietitian for nutrition support, a social worker for counselling or mental health support, or a patient navigator for help connecting with services.

Your Nurse Practitioner remains involved in your overall care and works closely with the team to ensure care is coordinated.
